National Veterinary Associates offers clinical externships at their North Branch Veterinary Hospital, allowing veterinary students to enhance their education through hands-on experience. Externs will work closely with experienced veterinarians to develop essential skills needed in the veterinary field, with a stipend offered for living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share common features: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. At North Branch Veterinary Hospital, externships are designed for clinical-year students.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. We offer a $1,000 stipend for clinical-year externships. Click here for details on the stipend program.
