Overview

An externship experience at an NVA hospital gives veterinary students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience.

Practice

Merrimack Veterinary Hospital is a busy, progressive practice with a strong focus on dentistry and provides dental referrals from local hospitals. Externs rotate through sick and wellness appointments and assist with surgery, developing basic proficiency with dental radiography while working with us.

Duration

Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.

Eligibility

All veterinary students—regardless of class year—are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
