National Veterinary Associates offers a unique externship opportunity at Macedon Veterinary Care for veterinary students. This hands-on experience focuses on clinical operations, patient management, and veterinary procedures, fostering essential skills in a supportive environment. Participants may receive a stipend to assist with living expenses during the externship, making it an attractive opportunity for students aiming to enhance their practical knowledge in veterinary care.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at Macedon Veterinary Care to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Externs will also have opportunities to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here for details on the stipend program. The stipend amount at Macedon Veterinary Care is $1,000.
