National Veterinary Associates offers veterinary externship opportunities for students to gain hands-on clinical experience. Externs will collaborate with veterinarians and acquire skills in patient care, diagnostics, and communication. This role encourages learning and growth in a supportive environment over a 2 to 8-week period.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, common features include a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. View stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
