Clark Animal Hospital – Externship Experience

Clark Animal Hospital is a long‑established veterinary practice founded in 1960. An externship experience at Clark Animal Hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although each hospital is unique, we all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and an established reputation for exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.

We are currently in the early stages of designing a new building, only three blocks from our current hospital. The new facility will provide us with an updated space and new opportunities for growth.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, students will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical examinations
• Create treatment plans
• Conduct diagnostics
• Provide dentistry services
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
• Manage patient medical care
• Communicate with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Qualifications

• Clinical year veterinary students only
• Eligible for a travel/living expense stipend

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.
