Externship Overview

At Evergreen Animal Hospital, you can expect to gain hands‑on experience in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, surgeries to include spay/neuter, orthopedic (TPLO, Extracapsular Repair), soft tissue, dentistry, and rabbit surgeries. Offered as well will be GP appointment experience, exotic medicine, communication, and hospital flow with an established team.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and manage medical care for patients. Externs will also practice communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships are designed for final clinical year veterinary students.

Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Evergreen Animal Hospital is $1,500.
