Job summary

Abqpetcarehospital offers an externship program for veterinary students to gain hands-on clinical experience while working closely with a supervising Associate Veterinarian. Students will engage in patient history collection, physical examinations, and diagnostic work, along with discussions for treatment plans.

The externship spans 2 to 8 weeks and provides eligible students with travel/living expense stipends. This program is designed to help students refine their clinical skills and learn in a professional environment.

Job description

Externship Overview

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the opportunity to understand day‑to‑day operations and gain hands‑on clinical experience. Students will work closely with a supervising Associate Veterinarian in patient history collection, physical examinations, treatment plan creation, diagnostic work, dentistry services, observation or assistance in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. They will also practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship Details

• Duration: 2 to 8 weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
• Eligible students: Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education.
• Stipend: Eligible students receive a travel/living expense stipend. (See stipend program for details.)
