National Veterinary Associates offers an externship for veterinary students providing hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment. Interns will engage with a wide range of responsibilities including patient assessments, surgery assistance, and team communication, with periods lasting between two to eight weeks.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration at Memorial Road Pet Hospital typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for more details.
