Job summary

Abqpetcarehospital offers a unique externship experience in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. This opportunity allows students to gain hands-on clinical experience by working closely with Associate Veterinarians.

Externs will gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, and assist in surgical procedures. Additionally, students will enhance their communication skills with the medical team and clients. A travel/living expense stipend of $500 is also provided during the externship.

Overview

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Students work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to learn how to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and manage patients medically. In addition to clinical skills, externs gain practice in communicating with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Eligibility & Stipend

Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules and are designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education.

Veterinary students in the clinical portion are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Flying Cloud Animal Hospital is $500.
