Abqpetcarehospital in Central Park offers an externship experience for DVM students, allowing them to understand day-to-day operations and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.
The role involves working with supervising DVMs on patient care tasks such as gathering histories, performing exams, and assisting in surgical procedures. A stipend of $500 is offered based on eligibility.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience.
Students will work closely with supervising DVMs to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, execute diagnostics, participate in dentistry services, observe/assist or perform surgical procedures, and manage patient medical care. They will also develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate. DVM students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
