Job summary

Abqpetcarehospital in Churchville offers a unique externship experience for veterinary students to understand daily operations and gain clinical hands-on experience. This externship is open to all veterinary students and lasts from two to eight weeks.

Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all have some things in common: an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.

Responsibilities during the externship include:

• Shadow doctors and highly qualified technicians to observe a wide range of cases.
• Work up cases alongside the doctor.
• Assist in surgery.
• Develop anesthesia protocols.
• Ask many questions to learn more about daily practice life.

The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Travel and living expense stipend: All veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a stipend. At Churchville Veterinary Clinic, the stipend amount is $1,500. An additional $500 travel stipend is offered to the amount listed in the stipend program.

Eligibility & Requirements

All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are eligible for the externship program.
