Abqpetcarehospital in Carlsbad, New Mexico, invites veterinary students to participate in an externship program designed to offer hands-on clinical experience. Externs will work closely with Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform examinations, create treatment plans, and conduct various procedures.
The externship lasts between two to eight weeks, with potential housing options available. The program also includes opportunities for communication skills development and engagement with the medical team and support staff.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe, assist or perform surgical procedures, and manage patients medically. In addition to practicing clinical skills, externs will practice communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences at Carlsbad Animal Clinic range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. Housing may be available in some instances.
