Job summary

NVA General Practice is seeking a veterinary assistant to support the care team and animal patients. The role includes assisting with treatments, monitoring hospitalized pets, restraining animals, and helping with diagnostic procedures. The position emphasizes teamwork, Fear Free techniques, and physical stamina to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for long periods. A compassionate approach to animals is essential.

Qualifications

• Enjoy working with animals and stay calm when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
• Prefer 1+ years of experience but not required.
• Ability to meet physical demands: lift up to 40 lbs, restrain animals.
• Familiar with Fear Free techniques.
• Walks or stands for extended periods and may squat or bend.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and aid after surgery.
• Maintain inventory and stocking.
• Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims.
• Assist with diagnostic tests (radiographs, bloodwork, fecal).
• Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments/equipment.
• Clean/disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas.
• Administer medications under supervision.
• Feeding and bathing animals.
• Answer phones and provide customer service.
• Assist clients with their pets.
