Job summary

NVA General Practice is seeking a veterinary assistant to be the frontline support for our full-service hospital. You will assist with patient care, monitoring hospitalized animals, and helping with surgeries under supervision.

This role requires compassion for animals, teamwork with all staff, physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs, and a willingness to multitask across duties from client communication to sterile instrument maintenance.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Self-starter, able to multitask and a team player.
• Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can handle them when stressed, ill or in pain.
• Prefer 1+ years of experience, but not required.
• Ability to meet physical demands: lift 40 lbs, restrain animals.
• Walks/stands for long periods; works in bent or squatting position.
• Works well with all hospital team members.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and aid in post-surgery care.
• Maintain inventory and stocking.
• Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims.
• Aid with routine diagnostic tests (radiographs, bloodwork, fecal).
• Sterilize surgical instruments/equipment.
• Clean/Disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas.
• Administer medications under Veterinarian/Vet Tech supervision.
• Feeding/bathing animals.
• Answer phones and provide customer service.
• Help clients with their pets.
