Veterinary Cardiologist - Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Board Certified or Residency Trained Cardiologist. The role involves providing comprehensive care, collaborating with a team of veterinarians, technicians, and support staff, and working closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager at our 24‑hour specialty and emergency referral hospital in Thousand Oaks, California.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups
  • Client communication and education
  • Maintaining accurate medical records
  • Pharmacy duties, including prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols
  • Promoting teamwork and staff efficiency
  • Collaborating with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
  • Evaluating and monitoring protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge
  • Monitoring cases and attending daily rounds when possible to uphold the highest standards
  • Participating in practice management updates and training at all levels
  • Performing other duties as assigned by Management
Qualifications (Required)
  • Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
  • 1‑year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or ER (university or large referral practice)
  • Completed a 3‑year, AVMA‑approved residency program
  • Current State Veterinary License
  • DEA registration obtained and maintained
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
  • Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care
  • Client communication skills: ability to elicit information, establish rapport, and offer explanations to pet owners
  • Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets
  • Capability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed
  • Capability to perform moderately physically demanding work periodically
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Board Certification
  • 2‑5 years of experience post‑residency
  • Clinical knowledge and skill in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other necessary examinations
  • Problem‑solving ability to develop solutions for high‑quality veterinary hospital management
  • Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff
  • Professionalism and openness to constructive criticism and feedback
  • Business acumen: understanding of veterinary hospital management and finances
  • Ethical principles guiding patient‑centered decisions
