Job summary

Penn State University’s Animal Diagnostic Lab is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform a broad range of bacteriology and molecular microbiology tests on diverse specimens. You will review results, report findings to clients, and assist with QA tasks while cross-training across lab areas.

Applicants should have an Associate Degree with 2+ years of relevant experience; a Bachelor’s degree or Medical Technologist Certification is preferred. Background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree with 2+ years of relevant experience or equivalent
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science preferred and/or Medical Technologist Certification
• Strong data entry skills and familiarity with lab information systems would be beneficial

Responsibilities

• Perform bacteriology and molecular microbiology testing on specimens; include culturing, enumeration, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility
• Process egg and environmental samples for programs and agencies (PEN QA, FDA, NPI)
• Review results, generate and send reports, respond to client needs
• Procure lab supplies, maintain equipment, prepare reagents, keep records, and support QA tasks
• Cross train in other laboratory areas as needed
