Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic team and contribute to the health and performance of these majestic animals. This position is a year-round position located at Turfway Park Racetrack. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Assisting veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures for thoroughbred racehorses
• Handling and restraining horses safely and effectively
• Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including office areas and veterinary vehicles.
• Preparing medications and procedures as directed by your supervising veterinarian.
• Performing routine lab work and maintaining laboratory equipment
• Monitoring horses for signs of illness or distress and reporting observations to the veterinary team
• Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation of exams and reports

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in equine veterinary technology is a plus
• Previous experience working with horses, specifically thoroughbreds, is preferred
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
• Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
