Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, PLLC is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support health and performance of Thoroughbred racehorses. The role travels between Louisville, KY during the summer season and Hot Springs, AR in winter, with duties including assisting veterinarians, handling horses, maintaining clean facilities, and performing routine lab work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in equine veterinary technology is a plus.
• Previous experience working with horses, specifically thoroughbreds, is preferred.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Assisting veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures for thoroughbred racehorses.
• Handling and restraining horses safely and effectively.
• Maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including office areas and veterinary vehicles.
• Preparing medications and procedures as directed by supervising veterinarian.
• Performing routine lab work and maintaining laboratory equipment.
• Monitoring horses for signs of illness or distress and reporting observations to the veterinary team.
• Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation of exams and reports.
