Job summary

Alpharetta Veterinary Specialty + Emergency (AVSE) is part of Ethos Veterinary Health. We seek a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join the Surgery team in Alpharetta, GA, supporting advanced surgical care and collaborating with veterinarians and technicians.

You will work Monday-Thursday, 7:00 AM-5:00 PM, with occasional extended hours based on caseload. A $750 sign-on bonus is available and benefits include medical/dental/vision, PTO, 401(k), CE allowance, and more.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years veterinary assistant or technician experience
  • Experience with patient care, restraint, and basic procedures
  • Interest in advancing surgical skills in a specialty setting
  • Experience with surgical prep, anesthesia support, or diagnostics preferred
  • Ability to handle anesthetic gases, chemicals, and zoonotic diseases
  • Lift and move patients/equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Remain organized in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • Reliable, dependable, and detail-oriented patient care
  • Flexibility for occasional schedule changes
  • Fluent English speaking/reading required

Responsibilities

  • Support advanced surgical care alongside veterinarians and technicians
  • Prepare surgical patients: vitals, restraint, blood collection, IV access
  • Assist with patient shaving and aseptic prep for surgery
  • Set up OR and maintain surgical standards
  • Transport sedated patients to/from OR
  • Support anesthesia recovery and monitoring
  • Maintain sterile fields and OR maintenance tasks
  • Perform in-house lab testing and diagnostics
  • Instrument cleaning, sterilization, maintenance
  • Assist with imaging: X-ray, ultrasound, CT
  • Position radiographs for procedures; manage catheterization
  • Communicate discharge instructions to clients compassionately
  • Provide excellent client service from check-in to discharge
  • Keep surgical dept clean, organized, efficient
  • Collaborate to deliver outstanding patient care

Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Assistant on the Surgery team, you will support advanced surgical care while working closely with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and hospital support teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare surgical patients by obtaining vitals, assisting with restraint, blood collection, and IV catheter placement

  • Assist with surgery preparation, including patient shaving and aseptic preparation of surgical sites

  • Set up operating rooms for surgical procedures and maintain appropriate surgical standards

  • Safely transport sedated and anesthetized patients to and from the operating room

  • Support anesthesia recovery and provide patient monitoring as directed by the medical team

  • Maintain sterile fields and assist with operating room daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance

  • Perform in-house laboratory testing and diagnostic procedures

  • Complete instrument cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance procedures

  • Assist with advanced imaging procedures including X-ray, ultrasound, and CT

  • Support radiograph positioning for orthopedic procedures, chest radiographs, chest tube placements, and urethral catheterization

  • Prepare prescriptions and communicate discharge instructions clearly and compassionately to clients

  • Provide exceptional client service from check-in through discharge

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient surgical department

  • Collaborate with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and team members to provide outstanding patient care

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician experience required

  • Interest in developing advanced skills within a surgical specialty environment

  • Experience with surgical preparation, anesthesia support, or advanced diagnostics preferred

  • Ability to work around anesthetic gases, chemicals, and zoonotic diseases

  • Ability to safely lift and move patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to remain organized and efficient in a fast-paced surgical environment

  • Reliable, dependable, and detail-oriented with a commitment to excellent patient care

  • Flexibility to support occasional schedule adjustments based on hospital needs

  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
