Job summary

Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates in Virginia is seeking a veterinary assistant to be the primary support for the team. You will assist with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, maintain supplies, restrain animals for procedures, and help with diagnostics.

The role requires compassion for animals, physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs, and ability to multitask in a busy hospital. Prior experience is welcomed but not required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Self-starter, able to multitask and a team player.
• Enjoy working with animals and handle them when stressed, ill, or in pain.
• Prefer 1+ years of experience, but not required.
• Ability to meet physical demands: lift 40 lbs, restrain animals.
• Walks or stands for extended periods; may squat or bend.
• Team-oriented and able to work with all hospital staff levels.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and aid in post-surgery care.
• Maintain inventory and stocking of supplies.
• Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims.
• Aid with routine diagnostic tests (radiographs, bloodwork, fecal tests).
• Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments/equipment.
• Clean/disinfect cages, kennels, and treatment areas.
• Administer medications under supervision.
• Feed and bathe animals.
• Answer phones and help clients with their pets.
