Job summary

Animal Medical Services (Blue Ridge) in Mount Airy, NC, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and techs in patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and assist with surgeries and lab work.

You will educate clients, handle samples, prepare prescriptions, and maintain inventory while keeping compassionate communication with clients. Weekend work may be required; prior veterinary experience is preferred, and we offer benefits and flexible schedules.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in animal medicine and surgery as needed.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor during procedures.
• Obtain and process samples; perform in-house lab work and prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take radiographs with proper safety procedures and PPE.
• Handle and restrain animals during exams as needed.
• Administer medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments per veterinarian guidance.
• Clean and organize exam and lab areas; restock supplies; maintain equipment.
• Demonstrate warmth and professionalism with clients; show compassion for patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members about patient plans and client concerns.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
