Job summary

Chewy Vet Care in the United States is building a new veterinary practice and seeks a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join the Healthcare Practice Team. You’ll support the practice with high-level medical care, handle equipment, and help deliver the Chewy Vet Care WOW experience for pets and their families.

The role emphasizes teamwork, SOPs, inventory care, and patient safety; weekend work and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Veterinary Assistant.
• 0 - 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice.
• Experience in veterinary medicine.
• Passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus.
• Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
• Excellent verbal / written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
• Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the practice team with high-level veterinary care and Chewy Vet Care culture, collaborating with peers.
• Implement policies and procedures using integrated technology, delivering appropriate medical care.
• Assist veterinarians with operating medical equipment (lab, radiology, anesthesia, dental) and handling animal specimens.
• Demonstrate team support and care for others’ work experiences.
• Follow the practice SOPs and Standards of Care (SOC).
• Review invoices with clients and handle client payments.
• Communicate clearly with team members and keep veterinarians informed on patient updates.
• Be proficient using the PIMS system and assist teammates with its use.
• Manage pharmacy holdings and keep controlled substance logs.
• Assist the practice manager with inventory communications.
