Job summary

West Hills Animal Hospital & Emergency Center in Huntington, NY is seeking a part-time Kennel Assistant to join our busy animal care team. The role focuses on caring for hospitalized and boarding pets, keeping facilities clean, and supporting veterinary staff.

You'll feed, exercise, monitor health, and assist with grooming and basic treatments. Day and evening shifts, weekends and holidays required; 18+ years old.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Previous animal care experience preferred, but not required.
• Comfortable working with dogs and cats of all breeds and temperaments.
• Able to multitask in a fast-paced veterinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily care for hospitalized and boarding animals, including feeding, cleaning, exercising, and monitoring.
• Walk and safely handle dogs of various breeds and temperaments.
• Maintain clean kennels, cages, patient rooms, and care areas.
• Assist with bathing, brushing, nail trims, and basic grooming.
• Observe health and report concerns to the veterinary team.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed.
• Assist with examinations and procedures when needed.
• Maintain accurate records of patient care and treatments.
• Complete dishes, laundry, and daily cleaning.
• Supervise play sessions and provide enrichment for daycare guests.
• Prepare meals and treats per instructions.
• Assist with guest check-in/check-out for boarding and daycare.
• Provide friendly customer service to pet owners.
• Handle hospital laundry and transport between facilities.
• Provide care indoors and outdoors, rain or shine.

West Hills Animal Hospital & Emergency Center is looking for a compassionate, dependable Kennel Attendant to join our animal care team! If you're a true animal lover, enjoy hands-on work with dogs and cats, and thrive in a busy veterinary hospital environment, we'd love to meet you.

This can be a messy, active job, but it's incredibly rewarding for the right person. As a Kennel Attendant, you'll play an important role in providing exceptional care to our hospitalized, boarding, and daycare patients while maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pets, clients, and our veterinary team.

We're looking for someone who is dependable, organized, comfortable with the physical and sometimes messy realities of animal care, and able to multitask safely in a fast-paced veterinary hospital with a high volume of patients and guests.

Previous experience working with animals, such as in a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, boarding facility, kennel, daycare, grooming facility, or other professional animal care setting, is strongly preferred.

Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and have availability for day and evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Some of the responsibilities you will own in this role:

  • Observe animal health and behavior and promptly report any concerns to the veterinary team
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed
  • Assist with safely handling animals during examinations and procedures when needed
  • Maintain accurate records of patient care and treatments
  • Complete dishes, laundry, and other daily cleaning and sanitation responsibilities
• • Supervise one-on-one play sessions with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments
  • Provide enrichment, attention, exercise, and socialization to daycare and boarding guests
  • Prepare and administer meals and treats according to owner or hospital instructions
  • Assist with guest check-in and check-out for boarding and daycare services
  • Interact with pet owners and provide friendly, professional customer service
  • Maintain hospital laundry and transport laundry between our facilities as needed
  • Provide animal care in both indoor and outdoor environments, rain or shine
  • Support the veterinary and hospital teams with additional tasks as needed
