Job Overview

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast‑paced emergency department.

Compensation

• Pay range: $20.32 - $30.00 (pay band depends on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.)
• Shift differentials:
  • Weekday Night (Mon‑Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
  • Weekend Day (Sat‑Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
  • Weekend Night (Sat‑Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical examination; accurately count heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
• Possess knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
