BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department. A Surgery Veterinary Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.

A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed. Pay range: $20.32 - $30.00.

• On-call schedule after training is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Perform physical exams; accurately count heart rate, pulse, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Alert doctor if abnormal vital signs are observed.
• Set up and administer intravenous fluids.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Disconnect and reconnect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.

*This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalicvein.
• Performs physicalexam; accurately countsheart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratoryrateand effort.
• Understands normal vital parameters andalertsdoctor when abnormal.
• Able to set up intravenous fluids.
• Administers subcutaneous fluids.
• Canoperateall brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connectpatientsfrom intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Ability tomonitorpatient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
