Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department. You will triage emergency cases, perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work), set up ICU or inpatient wards, discharge patients, and communicate with clients.

The role includes nursing care, rounds reporting, medication administration, phlebotomy, and assisting with anesthesia and RECOVER CPR guidelines.

Qualifications

• Provide nursing care to emergency patients according to hospital standards.
• Triage emergency cases and assist DVM with plans and overestimates as needed.
• Understand medications, monitor responses and manage side effects.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Perform phlebotomy and basic diagnostic tasks.

• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.

• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring equipment for ASA I or II patients.
• Stay current with RECOVER CPR guidelines and perform assigned roles.

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department.

• Pay range: $20.32 - $30.00
• This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As An Emergency Veterinary Assistant, You Will

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
