Job summary

National Veterinary Associates (NVA) seeks a veterinary assistant to be the primary support across departments, aiding with patient care, monitoring hospitalized pets after surgery, and assisting with diagnostic tests. The role requires physical stamina for lifting and restraining animals and a collaborative team mindset within a busy veterinary hospital.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with animals, handles stressful situations calmly, and may have 1+ years of experience.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years old or older.
• Must be a self-starter, able to multitask and a team player.
• Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can handle stressed/ill or in-pain animals.
• Prefer 1+ years of experience, but not required.
• Must be able to meet physical demands: lifting, carrying, restraining animals (assistance for >40 lbs).
• Walks or stands for extended periods; may crouch or bend for long periods.
• Experience with teamwork across hospital staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and treatment.
• Monitor hospitalized pets and assist after surgery.
• Maintain inventory and stocking.
• Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims.
• Assist with routine diagnostic tests (radiographs, bloodwork, fecal).
• Sterilize surgical instruments/equipment and maintain sterility.
• Clean/Disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas.
• Administer medications under Veterinarian/Vet Tech supervision.
• Feeding/bathing animals.
• Answer phones and assist clients with their pets.
