Job summary

Lakefield Veterinary Group is looking for a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, ensuring the safety of pets and clients while maintaining high-quality veterinary care. The role emphasizes compassionate patient handling and precise recordkeeping.

You will assist with exams, administer basic care under supervision, educate pet owners, and help keep the clinic orderly and efficient.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred.
• One year of experience in a pet care setting.
• Broad knowledge of animal science.
• Basic knowledge of pharmacology.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and industry internet sites.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms, medical equipment, and surgery areas between appointments.
• Obtain initial patient information and update medical records.
• Calm, soothe, comfort, and restrain pets during procedures.
• Provide owners with education and instructions for pet care under veterinarian direction.
• Monitor vital signs and post-surgical status.
• Assist with routine lab tests, medication administration, and client education.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the facility.
