Job summary

Lakefield Veterinary Group is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians and ensure the safety and comfort of pets during visits. The role includes preparing treatment rooms, recording medical histories, calming pets, and assisting with procedures.

You will educate owners on pet care, monitor patients post-procedure, and maintain accurate records. Flexibility for evenings and weekends is required; NAVTA certification preferred and one year of experience in a pet care

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred.
  • One year of experience in a pet care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare exam rooms, medical equipment, and surgery between appointments.
  • Obtain initial patient information and update records as directed by veterinarians.
  • Calm, soothe, comfort, and restrain pets before, during, and after procedures.
  • Provide owners education and resources on pet care as directed by veterinarians.
  • Monitor and record pet vital signs following surgery and during boarding.
  • Respond to client questions with professional, compassionate communication.
  • Examine pets and perform basic health checks under veterinarian direction.
  • May administer medications and perform routine laboratory tests under supervision.
