Job summary

Callaway County Small Animal Veterinary Clinic is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and assist with procedures. The role includes preparing prescriptions, in‑house lab work, client education, and surgical assistance.

Expect weekends and potential cross-training. Compensation ranges from $20.00 to $22.00 per hour, with benefits including PTO and health/dental/vision coverage where applicable.

• Patience, compassion, and professionalism with clients, teammates, and patients.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
• Assist outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and educating clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in‑house lab work and prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
• Clean and restock exam rooms and treatment areas; keep equipment and labs clean.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients and patients.
