Job summary

Yorktown Veterinary Associates in Yorktown, NY is seeking a dedicated veterinary assistant to join our busy team. You’ll support doctors and technicians, assist during appointments, surgeries, and hospitalized patient care, and help deliver compassionate, high-quality care to our patients and their families.

We value hands-on learners who stay organized in a fast-paced environment. Prior veterinary assistant experience is preferred; training and development opportunities are provided as you grow

Qualifications

• 1 year of veterinary assistant experience required.
• Comfortable restraining dogs and cats.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with lab samples, radiographs, or anesthesia monitoring is a plus.
• Desire to continue developing veterinary knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Safely restraining patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Assisting with triage and obtaining patient histories.
• Collecting and processing laboratory samples and assisting with in-house diagnostics.
• Preparing patients for and assisting with diagnostic imaging, including digital radiographs.
• Providing nursing care and monitoring hospitalized patients with varying medical needs.
• Administering medications as directed by the veterinary team.
• Assisting with surgical preparation and procedures.
• Supporting anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
• Communicating treatment information and instructions to clients.

Job Description

What You’ll Do

As a veterinary assistant, your responsibilities will include supporting the veterinary team throughout appointments, procedures, and hospitalized patient care. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of cases and build experience across different areas of veterinary medicine.

Your Day May Include

• Safely restraining patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.


• Assisting with triage and obtaining patient histories.


• Collecting and processing laboratory samples and assisting with in-house diagnostics.


• Preparing patients for and assisting with diagnostic imaging, including digital radiographs.


• Providing nursing care and monitoring hospitalized patients with varying levels of medical needs.


• Administering medications as directed by the veterinary team.


• Assisting with surgical preparation and procedures.


• Supporting anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.


• Communicating treatment information and instructions to clients in a professional and compassionate manner.


• Keeping treatment areas, equipment, and patient spaces clean and organized.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced veterinary assistant who is compassionate, dependable, calm under pressure, and comfortable working as part of a busy veterinary team.

• At least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience is required.


• Comfortable safely restraining dogs and cats.


• Strong communication and teamwork skills.


• Able to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced veterinary environment.


• Experience with sample collection, medical histories, laboratory testing, digital radiographs, or anesthesia monitoring is a plus.


• Self-motivated with a desire to continue developing your veterinary knowledge and skills.


• Compassionate approach to both patients and their families.
