Yorktown Veterinary Associates is seeking a veterinary assistant to support doctors and technicians, handling patient care during appointments, procedures, and hospitalization. You will work with a skilled team in a hands-on veterinary setting, building experience across multiple areas of veterinary medicine.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience is required.
• Comfortable restraining dogs and cats.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with sample collection, laboratory testing, or anesthesia monitoring is a plus.
• Compassionate approach to patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Safely restrain patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Assist with triage and obtain patient histories.
• Collect and process laboratory samples and assist with in-house diagnostics.
• Prepare patients for imaging and assist with radiographs.
• Provide nursing care and monitor hospitalized patients.

As a veterinary assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting our doctors and veterinary technicians while helping provide excellent patient care. As a veterinary assistant, your responsibilities will include supporting the veterinary team throughout appointments, procedures, and hospitalized patient care. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of cases and build experience across different areas of veterinary medicine.

Your day may include:

• Safely restraining patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Assisting with triage and obtaining patient histories.
• Collecting and processing laboratory samples and assisting with in-house diagnostics.
• Preparing patients for and assisting with diagnostic imaging, including digital radiographs.
• Providing nursing care and monitoring hospitalized patients with varying levels of medical needs.
• Administering medications as directed by the veterinary team.
• Assisting with surgical preparation and procedures.
• Supporting anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
• Communicating treatment information and instructions to clients in a professional and compassionate manner.
• Keeping treatment areas, equipment, and patient spaces clean and organized.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced veterinary assistant who is compassionate, dependable, calm under pressure, and comfortable working as part of a busy veterinary team.

• At least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience is required.
• Comfortable safely restraining dogs and cats.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced veterinary environment.
• Experience with sample collection, medical histories, laboratory testing, digital radiographs, or anesthesia monitoring is a plus.
• Self-motivated with a desire to continue developing your veterinary knowledge and skills.
• Compassionate approach to both patients and their families.
