Job summary

Thunderbird Veterinary Hospital in Oklahoma City is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support triage, sample collection, lab analysis, radiographs, and nursing care for medical and hospitalized patients. You will assist with surgical prep, medications, and communicate treatment plans to clients.

Must be able to restrain pets and handle odors and noises. We offer virtual and hands-on training, career development, and benefits to eligible staff.

Qualifications

• 1 year of veterinary assistant experience preferred.
• Compassionate, calm, team player, multi-tasker and strong communicator.
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs; anesthesia monitoring is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Restrain pets as needed and triage incoming patients.
• Collect and analyze lab samples; perform diagnostic imaging.
• Manage and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized patients.
• Administer medications and communicate treatment plans to clients.

Job Description

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.

Pay: $14/hr + based on experience
