Veterinary Assistant

Department: Veterinary Assistants

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma


Compensation: $16.00 - $24.00 / hour


Description

Neel Veterinary Hospital is hiring full-time veterinary assistants to join our team. We seek individuals with veterinary care experience who are eager to learn, work well in a team, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and prioritize patient care. Our 24-hour hospital handles a diverse caseload, including exotic patients, within our general practice department.


Daily Responsibilities

  • Handling and restraining patients
  • Administering medication and filling prescriptions
  • Assisting team members and veterinarians as needed
  • Performing venipuncture and administering drugs (IV, SQ, oral)
  • Assisting with radiographic procedures
  • Conducting diagnostic blood, urine, and fecal tests
  • Admitting and discharging patients

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Preferred at least 1 year of veterinary experience, especially in emergency medicine
  • Proficient in triage and multitasking in stressful situations
  • Effective communicator with clients, visitors, veterinarians, and staff (and comfortable talking to animals!)
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, and move freely for extended periods
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Willing to work in environments with exposure to infectious or contagious diseases

Neel Veterinary Hospital is a 14,000 square foot, full-service small animal hospital serving Oklahoma City for over 30 years. Our team includes experienced DVMs, specialists, interns, and support staff. Facilities include nine exam rooms, a double surgery suite, in-house lab, ultrasound, radiology, 24/7 ICU, and Oklahoma's only pet-specific Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chamber.
