Job description

Veterinary Assistant

Suncook River Veterinary Clinic is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to support patient care, appointment flow, procedures, diagnostics, and day-to-day hospital operations.

We are a warm, welcoming veterinary clinic in Epsom, NH with a team that cares deeply about providing thoughtful care for pets and clear communication for the people who love them. Our hospital is Fear-Free Certified and provides care for dogs, cats, and a variety of exotic pets. Our services include wellness care, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, laboratory services, pharmacy support, pain management, integrated medicine, behavior counseling, laser therapy, and acupuncture.

This role is a great fit for someone who is dependable, compassionate, and interested in building hands-on veterinary skills in a supportive general practice setting. Prior animal care experience is helpful, whether from a veterinary hospital, kennel, daycare, shelter, grooming, or similar environment, but we are open to training the right person.

We are looking for someone who is excited to plant roots with our team in a consistent full-time role. No seasonal opportunities are available at this time.

If you are reliable, eager to learn, and looking for a veterinary team where you can contribute while continuing to grow, we would like to meet you.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with animals, able to follow direction, and ready to support a busy veterinary team.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Interest in a consistent full-time role
  • Some animal care experience preferred, but not required
  • Comfort working with dogs, cats, and occasional exotic pets
  • Interest in Fear-Free handling and low-stress patient care
  • A calm, compassionate approach with animals
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow direction from doctors, technicians, and leadership
  • Reliability, professionalism, and consistency with scheduling
  • A team-focused attitude and willingness to help wherever needed
  • Interest in supporting appointments, diagnostics, surgery, dentistry, and patient care
  • A desire to learn and continue building hands-on veterinary skills

Animal care experience outside of a veterinary clinic can be valuable, and we are open to candidates who are ready to learn. The most important qualities are reliability, compassion, follow-through, and a genuine interest in veterinary medicine.

Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will support doctors, technicians, and hospital leadership with patient care, exam room flow, procedure preparation, diagnostics, and general hospital support.

  • Assisting doctors and technicians with patient handling and restraint
  • Supporting exam room flow and helping keep appointments moving efficiently
  • Preparing exam rooms, treatment areas, surgical areas, kennels, supplies, and equipment
  • Assisting with patient intake, weights, basic histories, and client communication as appropriate
  • Helping with patient care before, during, and after procedures
  • Walking, feeding, cleaning, and monitoring patients as directed
  • Assisting with in-house lab work and sample handling as appropriate
  • Supporting radiology, diagnostics, and treatment flow as trained
  • Cleaning, disinfecting, restocking, and keeping the hospital organized
  • Communicating patient updates or concerns to the appropriate team members
