Job summary

North Laurel Animal Hospital, part of Vetcor, is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in a fast-paced hospital setting.

This full-time role requires strong communication, teamwork, and a commitment to high-quality patient care, with opportunities for growth through continuing education and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience working in a veterinary hospital preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe animal restraint techniques.
  • Familiarity with basic veterinary terminology and pharmacology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians with examinations, treatments, procedures, and blood draws.
  • Safely and compassionately restrain patients while protecting the safety of both the animal and the veterinary team.
  • Gather patient histories, vital signs, and other relevant information.
  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize surgical suites, instruments, and equipment.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and promptly report changes in condition to the medical team.
  • Assist with laboratory procedures, including preparing fecal, urine, and blood samples.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records and document patient histories, vitals, and treatments.
  • Feed, walk, and provide attentive care for hospitalized patients and boarders.
  • Clean, sanitize, stock, and organize exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and hospital spaces.
  • Monitor supply levels and communicate inventory needs to hospital leadership.
  • Welcome clients and patients with warmth and professionalism.
  • Assist with client check-in and check-out as needed.
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments.
  • Process pharmacy refill requests and client payments.
  • Educate clients on basic pet care, preventive products, and post-appointment instructions
  • Collaborate with the entire hospital team to maintain an efficient daily workflow.

What Our Veterinary Assistants Do
