Role Description

The Veterinary Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based at Hoboken Vets Animal Clinic in Hoboken, NJ. This role supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing safe, attentive care to patients, including handling animals, assisting during exams and procedures, and monitoring comfort and wellbeing. Daily responsibilities include preparing exam rooms, maintaining cleanliness and organization, restocking supplies, and supporting basic laboratory and diagnostic tasks as directed. The Veterinary Assistant helps with client check-in, patient history collection, and client education on topics such as preventive care, home care instructions, and post-visit follow-up. This role also involves collaborating with the team to ensure efficient workflow, accurate medical record documentation, and a welcoming, professional experience for clients and their pets.

Qualifications

• Strong Animal Care and Pet Care skills, including safe handling, basic husbandry, and observation of animal behavior and comfort.
• Ability to support Veterinary Medicine activities, such as assisting with exams, treatments, and diagnostics under professional supervision.
• Experience or aptitude in Client Education, including explaining basic care instructions and reinforcing preventive health recommendations.
• Solid Customer Service skills, with a focus on empathy, clear communication, and managing client questions in a calm, professional manner.
• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a veterinary assistant program or relevant coursework is preferred.
• Ability to stand, bend, and lift moderate weights, and to work in a fast-paced clinical environment with attention to detail and safety.
