Job Summary

The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the Banfield Pet Hospital team who supports and assists veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients and associates and maintaining the continuity of quality veterinary care. The role requires technical competence, empathy, and a commitment to patient and client well‑being.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the care and treatment of patients, performing tasks that do not require veterinary or veterinary technician supervision.
• Maintain patient flow and order supplies to keep exam rooms and labs clean, organized and ready for use.
• Communicate effectively with veterinarians, veterinary technicians and staff regarding patient status and procedural needs.
• Help prepare patients and equipment for procedures and assist during procedures when appropriate.
• Educate clients about preventive care and Banfield’s Optimum Wellness Plans.
• Support and mentor new veterinarians’ assistants, fostering a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Preferred: Certificate of completion from a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be able to perform all required skills of a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice.
• Action oriented, customer focused, good listening skills, and effective communication.

Pay Range

$15.99 – $20.44 hourly, based on experience, skill level and education. Pay may vary by location and applicable wage laws.
