Job summary

Banfield Pet Hospital in Tempe, AZ seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, helping ensure the safety of pets, clients and staff and maintaining the continuity of high‑quality care.

You will help manage patient flow, communicate with the team, perform delegated procedures, keep treatment areas clean, educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, and mentor others.

Qualifications

  • NAVTA-certified veterinary assistant program or equivalent mix of education, training and experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to perform NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant skills to aid practice efficiency.

Job Summary

The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team who supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients and other associates, and the continuity of quality veterinary care.

Responsibilities
  • Help maintain the flow of patients.
  • Communicate with veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
  • Carry out or set up procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance.
  • Adhere to hospital standards that keep pets safe and keep treatment areas, exam rooms and laboratories clean and organized.
  • Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans and the importance of preventive care.
  • Mentor other members of the hospital team.
Qualifications
  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that aids the efficiency of the practice.

Pay Range

$15.19 – $19.41 hourly, depending on experience, skill level and education, and may vary by location or applicable minimum wage laws.
