Veterinary Assistant – Banfield Pet Hospital Clive

This posting will remain open for a minimum of two weeks from the posting date.

Job Summary

The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team who supports and assists the veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients and other associates, and the continuity of quality veterinary care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times, ensuring clients and pets are comfortable.
  • Assist in maintaining patient flow and hospital cleanliness.
  • Communicate with veterinarians and veterinary technicians regarding patient care.
  • Carry out or set up procedures that do not require veterinarian or tech assistance.
  • Adhere to hospital standards that keep pets safe and treatment areas clean.
  • Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans and preventive care.
  • Mentor other members of the hospital team.
Preferred Education / Licenses

Certificate of completion from a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Preferred Experience

Must be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice.

Special Working Conditions
  • Requires long periods at a computer.
  • Comfortable around pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles etc.).
  • Requires weekend support hours.
  • Must perform mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability to perform duties proficiently.
  • Moderately high noise level.
  • Requires ambulatory skills; stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb.
  • Capability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Good hand‑eye coordination, arm‑hand‑finger dexterity, visual acuity for keyboard and equipment use.
  • May be exposed to pets that bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
