Ethos Veterinary Health’s Care Center Cincinnati is hiring a Veterinary Assistant in Surgery to join our urgent and specialty hospital team. Based in Cincinnati, OH, this full-time role offers a varying schedule and hands-on surgical support under veterinarians and technicians.

Compensation ranges $20-$23 per hour, depending on experience, plus a $500 sign-on bonus. You will assist with exams, treatments, diagnostics, and patient prep, while delivering compassionate care and maintaining medical

Qualifications

  • Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and focused in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Genuine passion for animal care and desire to grow veterinary skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for compassionate client service.
  • High school diploma or GED; prior veterinary/clinical experience preferred but training available.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures.
  • Monitor surgical and hospitalized patients, providing nursing support.
  • Prepare patients for surgery with sterile technique and assist during procedures.
  • Collect and prepare lab samples; maintain clean, organized treatment areas.
  • Document patient treatments and observations in medical records in a timely manner.
  • Educate clients with clear discharge and home-care instructions.
  • Maintain a safe hospital environment and support team members.

In Your Day-To-Day, You Will
  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient exams, treatments, diagnostics, and medical procedures to deliver exceptional patient care.
  • Monitor surgical and hospitalized patients, providing attentive nursing support and recognizing changes in patient condition.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by performing surgical prep, maintaining sterile technique, and supporting the team throughout surgical procedures.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples while ensuring surgical equipment and treatment areas are clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and fellow team members to ensure seamless patient care and continuity throughout each shift.
  • Educate and support pet owners by providing compassionate updates and clear discharge and home-care instructions.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and document patient treatments, observations, and communications in a timely manner.
  • Help foster a clean, safe, and efficient hospital environment while always advocating for the health, comfort, and well-being of every patient.

  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Previous veterinary, clinical, or animal handling experience is preferred, but not required—we're happy to train motivated individuals.
  • The ability to safely lift up to 40 poundsunassisted and comfortably perform the physical responsibilities of the role.
  • A dependable work ethic, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to support your teammates while delivering outstanding patient care.
