Charlotte Animal Referral & Emergency is seeking an Anesthesiology Technician to join our 24-hour emergency and specialty team in Charlotte, NC. The role involves direct anesthesia support, patient assessment, and collaboration with veterinarians to ensure safe, efficient anesthesia care.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Veterinary Technician license is required.
• 2+ years of experience as a clinical Veterinary Technician with competence in anesthesia, including patient assessment, monitoring, recognition of complications and recovery.
• At least 1 year of experience in veterinary anesthesia or substantial anesthesia experience within a specialty, emergency, or high-acuity clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Consults with the anesthesiologist and veterinary teams daily on case priorities and anticipated workflow.
• Prepares, cleans, resets, and restocks anesthesia equipment and workspaces.
• Maintains flexibility and calmly adapts to changing schedules and patient acuity.
• Performs patient assessments and pre-anesthetic vital signs, and develops anesthesia plans under supervision.
• Places and maintains intravenous catheters and performs routine in-house lab procedures for anesthetized patients.
• Calculates and administers drug dosages and adheres to controlled substance policies.
• Induces, maintains, monitors, and recovers patients from anesthesia and communicates complications promptly.
• Performs advanced anesthetic procedures (epidural, arterial line, central line) as trained and directed.
• Positions patients for radiographs and uses anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment safely.
• Performs basic emergency care, CPR, and maintains accurate anesthesia records.
• Models gold-standard anesthesia practices and coaches technicians to build skills and confidence.
• Identifies opportunities to improve anesthesia workflow and collaborates across departments.
