Job summary

Delaware County is seeking a Veterans Service Officer to support the Director in daily operations and to engage with veterans and their families across the county. You will manage a personnel database, educate clients on benefits, and coordinate services such as home visits and ID card programs.

The role requires strong communication, presentation skills, and the ability to travel. Accreditation within a year is expected, and prior VSO experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; U.S. military Veteran preferred but not required.
• Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
• Excellent inter-personal, oral and written skills
• Excellent presentation skills; strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and social media savvy
• Must be able to travel extensively throughout the County
• Accreditation as a Veterans Service Officer with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs within one year of hiring
• Ideal candidate will have had previous experience functioning as a Veterans Service Officer

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director in day-to-day operations of the department.
• Participate in Veteran-centric events to heighten awareness of services.
• Manage a database of military personnel residing in Delaware County.
• Educate clients about available benefits and determine eligibility.
• Visit homebound and disabled Veterans at home or off site to assist with benefits.
• Represent the County in meetings and ceremonies with Veterans’ organizations and local municipalities.
• Coordinate the Delaware County Veterans ID card program.
• Interact with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; stay current on benefits.
• Attend continuing education training and seminars as needed.
• Meet Veterans in various settings and facilitate groups for benefits assistance.
• Coordinate activities with the Office of Workforce Development.
• Perform other duties as required by the department Director
