Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs eye care Optical Services in Tulsa seeks an Optician to provide comprehensive eyewear services to Veterans, including measurement, fitting, and repair of ophthalmic lenses and frames.

The role requires measuring pupillary distance, vertex distance, and segment heights, with strong customer service to educate Veterans on eyewear and address concerns. Duties include documenting care in the VA's electronic health record and coordinating with lab technicians.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05.
• Experience measuring, fitting eyeglasses including pupillary distance, vertex distance, and segment heights.
• Experience with repairing eyeglasses and handling ophthalmic lenses.
• Experience with electronic health record systems and maintaining patient records.
• Strong customer service and ability to educate Veterans on eyewear.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care related to eyewear selection, ordering, verification, troubleshooting, adjustment and repair of ophthalmic lenses and eyewear.
• Take measurements such as interpupillary distances, optical centers, and segment heights; document accurately.
• Adjust eyeglasses for proper fit and educate patients on wear and care of eyewear.
• Repair broken or defective eyeglasses.
• Triage patient concerns and verify eyewear fabrication per prescriptions.
• Document patient care in the electronic health record in a timely manner.
• Track eyeglass orders and notify Veterans when ready for pickup.
• Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm.
