Job summary

Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is seeking an experienced Health Tech (Optician) to support operations at the Big Spring VA Medical Center. The role coordinates optical operations and acts as a liaison between VCS eye clinics and prosthetics teams to enhance veteran eyewear experiences.

Strong communication and precise measurements are essential as you assist with frame selection, fittings, and order processing in a fast-paced clinic setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as an Optician.
• Ability to work independently while managing responsibilities and maintaining patient service.
• Ability to interpret prescriptions and resolve discrepancies to ensure accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers and provide knowledgeable assistance with frame selection, pricing, product options, and delivery timelines.
• Maintain a professional, welcoming environment while supporting patients in eyewear decisions.
• Perform eyewear fittings and obtain accurate measurements using optical equipment (digital pupilometers, lensometers, etc).
• Document patient information and measurements in the CPRS system.
• Process eyewear orders, collect payments, and enter orders into VA systems.
• Promote lens options and upgrades with a consultative approach.
• Coordinate with eye clinics, labs, prosthetics staff, and vendors to track orders and resolve issues with eyewear.
