The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs seeks a Veterans Service Officer to support veterans and their families by guiding them through benefits and services. You will work one-on-one, connect with community partners, and represent the department at local events to share information and resources.

The role requires a two-year college background in business or public administration and an honorable discharge with service during hostilities.

Qualificações

• Two years of college with emphasis in business administration or public administration.
• Honorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces with service during hostilities and meeting one or more of the specified conditions.
• At least one year of experience in sales, public relations, welfare work, or other work involving extensive public contact.
• Preferred: knowledge of veterans programs and benefits, and ability to work with diverse partners.
• Preferred: experience presenting to veterans groups and explaining federal/state legislation.

Responsabilidades

• Acts as Service Officer for the Field Services Division, managing a field office and handling claims and appeals.
• Advocates for veterans, retirees, spouses and dependents regarding applicable benefits.
• Liaisons with county, state, and federal agencies to establish veterans entitlements.
• Represents the department at community events, sharing information and resources.
• Trains and assists in training newly appointed Veterans' Service Officers.
• Performs other duties as required within the scope of duties listed.
