Job summary

Volunteers of America Mid-States seeks an Intake Coordinator for the SSVF program in Knoxville. You will be the first contact for veterans, determine eligibility, process assessments, and refer to case managers for housing stabilization.

You’ll enter data into HMIS and maintain client trackers with Excel. The role emphasizes compliance, confidentiality, and strong communication while coordinating with community partners across counties served.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and less than five (5) years of experience in the field; a person with five (5) years of experience in the field and no degree; a veteran with three (3) years related work experience.
• Must have knowledge of customer service skills; previous telephone system experience and proficient computer skills; well organized, self-starter, and able to work as a member of a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high degree of organization, and creative problem-solving skills. Must have a personal automobile, valid driver’s license, liability insurance, and be willing and able to travel between counties served.
• Must have ability to work independently and solve problems creatively; maintain confidentiality of all persons requesting assistance, the services requested, and the outcome of requests.
• Excellent time management skills, including demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Complete the Eligibility Screening Disposition Form for clients, confirming eligibility for SSVF services.
• Screen and verify eligibility requirements for SSVF homeless veteran assistance.
• Apply SSVF eligibility requirements for the program.
• Assist clients with crisis intervention and short-term housing stabilization, including access to shelters and supportive services.
• Refer clients who do not qualify to other housing stabilization programs within service area.
• Maintain intake logs and client databases; data entry into HMIS; ensure accuracy.
• Communicate with potential participants about the process and required documentation.
• Participate in outreach activities and staff meetings; support PQI duties as assigned.
