Job summary

U.S.VETS in Phoenix, AZ is seeking an Entry-level Peer Specialist to support veterans toward housing stability and recovery. You will provide peer mentoring, help connect clients to housing, healthcare, benefits, and community resources, and work with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with veterans, homeless populations, behavioral health programs, recovery services, or community-based programs preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to engage and motivate individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience facilitating groups, mentoring, coaching, or providing peer support preferred.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide peer support, mentoring, coaching, and encouragement to veterans toward personal, housing, and recovery goals.
• Build positive, professional relationships with veterans while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Facilitate peer support groups, life skills workshops, and community-building activities.
• Assist veterans in accessing housing, healthcare, benefits, employment services, legal resources, and community programs.
• Support veterans in developing independent living skills and achieving self-sufficiency.
• Conduct wellness checks, client follow-up, and supportive outreach.
• Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation of conflicts or behavioral concerns.
• Collaborate with Case Managers, Social Workers, Housing Specialists, and other service providers to coordinate care.
• Participate in case conferences, treatment team meetings, and program planning activities.
• Assist with maintaining accurate client documentation and program records.
• Support quality assurance activities, data collection, and reporting requirements.
• Coordinate recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities that promote community engagement and recovery.
• Transport clients to appointments, housing viewings, community resources, and other essential services as needed.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, VA requirements, and program policies.
