Job summary

JVS SoCal is seeking a Veteran Peer Support Specialist to provide in-person, peer-based support to Veterans and their families in Los Angeles County. The role uses lived experience to foster engagement and help navigate employment, housing, VA benefits, and more.

The position requires a BA/BS in related field, 2+ years in Veteran services, and strong customer service skills. Travel across LA County is required, with full-time hours and potential evenings or weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in related field preferred.
• 2+ years in Veteran Services or career counseling.
• Prior military experience desirable.
• Peer Support Certification or aligned experience.
• Strong customer service and counseling skills.
• Reliable transportation to travel between sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person peer support to Veteran participants using lived experience to build trust and motivation.
• Conduct regular in-person check-ins to support engagement and retention in services.
• Assist Veterans in navigating benefits and resources.
• Record interactions, progress notes, and outcomes in required data systems.
• Coordinate with community partners to ensure needed support for clients.
• Present workshops and host engagement events; participate in outreach activities.
