Externship stipends

Job summary

Owings Mills Veterinary Center hosts veterinary externships for clinical-year students from AVMA‑accredited schools. Externs participate in case discussions and hands‑on patient care across GP, ER and specialty settings.

You will be supervised by experienced veterinarians and support staff, with exposure to surgical and dental procedures, emergencies, and routine examinations. Stipends are available to offset travel and lodging costs where permitted by the school.

Qualifications

• Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
• Priority scheduling is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit
• Must provide proof of professional liability insurance

Responsibilities

• Externships allow hands-on case work in GP, ER and specialty settings under supervision
• Participants join case discussions, collaborative problem-solving, and patient care activities
• Externs are included in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, and routine exams
